Welcome to the Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department

Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department, Allegheny County Station 236, is located on State Route 286 in Holiday Park, PA. It is one of four fire departments located in Plum Borough, Allegheny County, which is located approximately 15 miles east of Pittsburgh. Holiday Park along with three other volunteer fire departments protects approximately 29 square miles and 36,000 residents.

HAZARDOUS MATERIAL INCIDENT

MARCH 26,2008 - Companies 236,233 were alerted at 13:37hrs for smoke in the area of Vincents Pizza for a possible brush fire, Asst. 234 in the area reported several 55 gallon drums of an unknown chemical on fire in the field north of Vincents. Recon team form 236 was sent to the area to determin what chemical(s) were involved. Once determined the Allegheny County (red) Haz-Mat team was requested to the scene for containment and further evaluation. Crews were on scene for over five hours with the red team and EPA. The material was determined to be a mixture of flammable cleaning solvent that were illegally disposed of. The scene was turned over to the EPA for clean-up and disposal.

NATURAL GAS RUPTURE

March 6, 2008 - Company 236, 234 were alerted at 06:52hrs for a odor of natural gas in the area of Holiday Park Dr. Chief 236 A234 and Chief 234 began investigating a strong odor in the rear of multiple residential structures. A 3 inch natural gas line was found with a substansual leak near a gate valve. Due to the size of the leak and the location of an elementary school a full first alarm assignment was requested. A total of 250 elementary school students were evactuated to O'Block junior high school as well as 30 residential structures were evacuated until Equitable gas arrived on scene to mitigate the gas leak. Crews were on scene for four hours assisting Equitable gas with scene safety and evacuation assistance. One resident was treated for respiratory problems. One Equitable gas crew arrived on scene, the gas to the affected area was shut off and all residents and students were able to return to their normal activities.

RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURAL EXPLOSION

March 5,2008 - Companies 236,234,233, Sardis 78 were alerted at 13:40hrs for a residential structural explosion with victims thrown from the the structure and trapped inside. Chief 236 on scene with command of a major catastrophic event. Immediality a second alarm was transmitted to Allegheny County E.O.C. bringing additional ressources to the scene. One structure was completely leveled by the explosion with heavy fire. Exposure B and D sustianed major damage. A total of tweanty additional structures sustained minor to moderate damage. Two victims were thrown from the structure and both were flown from the scene to Mercy trauma/burn center where the elderly gentleman passed away. A child was transferred to UPMC Children's hospital with fractures to the lower extremities. A primary and secondary search was completed of all involved structures with no other victims found. One minor injury to a Co. 236 EMT for a minor eye injury. Crews were on scene for over 10 hours extinguishing hot spots to the main structure and assisting with scene lighting and safety. A total of 65 firefighter's were on scene at the height of the incident. The Allegheny County Fire Marshalls office and the National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the incident.

Gun Shot Victim

January 9,2008 - Company 236 alerted by Allegheny Co. 911 for a reported shooting outside an apartmant. Plum and Murrysville police secured the area as Squad 236 and Chief 236 arrived on scene. One male was found outside the apartmant with biladeral gun shot wounds to both legs. Plum Medic 487 arrived on scene patient care was transferred. Patient was transported to Presby Trauma Center. The incident is still under investigation by the Plum Police Department.

Hazardous Material Incident

November 28, 2007 - Companies 233 and 236 were alerted for a reported ruptured residential gas line with fire ans electrical lines damaged. 233Asst-2 on scene with a fire involving a Jack Hammer and a natural gas line. Crews were on scene for over four hours. Reported  sub-contractors were working in the area installing underground cable lines.

Residential Structure Fire

November 21,2007 - Companies 236,233,234 and Westrmoreland Co.78 were alerted for a smoke condition inside a residential structure. Upon arrival crews found a stove fire with extention into the cabinets and attic area. Minor fire and smoke damage through out the kitchen. Crews on scene fo 45 minutes for salvage and overhaul operations.

Weather Related Calls Due to Storm

August 9,2007 -  While Company 236 was cleaning up after a residential job on Malabar Rd. A Second Major storm was working thruogh the Borough. For the next eight hours Company 236 responded to 27 fire related incidents in our district. A total well over 100 calls within the Borough. Company 236 responded to multiple calls of residential and business flooding, fire alarms, power lines down,roadway flooding, transformer and structure fires. Plum Emergency Management was activated for assistance for the Borough of Plum.

Residential Structural Fire

August 9, 2007 - Company 236 alerted via land line of a possible lightning strike to a residential structure at 08:39.Plum Dispatch center reported down due to the recent strom that had passed thru the borough. E236-1 reported to C236 a single family structure well involved with heavy fire through the roof. assistance was required through Westmoreland County for companies 20(Murrysville), and 78(Sardis). Allegheny County 911 dispatched stations 233,234 and 194(Monroeville).Due to the multiple exposures encountered a defense attack was ordered. A total of three expoxures sustained heavy heat damage up to 130' away from the fire building. Fire companies were on scene for over 5 hours. Red Cross notified for two displaced families. Murrysville Medic One on scene for re-hab services. Allegheny County Fire Marshalls office investigating the incident

Fatal Vehicle Collision

July 27, 2007 - Companies 233,236 were dispatched at 08:00 for a single vehicle collision with entrapment. EMS on scene confirming one occupant "code zero". Companies on scene for over five hours assisting the medical examinersand removal of the vehicle which was 400' over an embankment

Vehicle Fire

July 6, 2007 - Companies 233 and 236 dispatched at 21:04 for a reported vehicle. Chief 233 on scene with a well involved engine compartment fire to a van. fire was extinguished by E233-2 with a single 1 3/4 handline. E236-1 aluminated the are for 233's crew. Crews on scene less than one hour.

Residential Structure Fire

June 21, 2007 - Companies 234,233,236, Westmoreland CO. 78 dispatched at 02:13 for a reported fully involved structure fire. C234(Davis) on scene with command confirming fully involved two stroy vacent single family dwelling. Crews contained the fire to the structure with no exposures. All companies released within two hours of the initial dispatch.

Training(Sardis Structural Burn)

May 19,2007 - Sardis Volunteer Fire Company hosted a structural brun day, making way for a new residential community in the 78th district. Westmoreland Companies 78(Sardis), 20(Murrysville), 22(Export), Allegheny Companies 236(Holiday Park), and 234(Renton) were on hand to enjoy the beautiful day and feel some heat. VEHICLE COLLISION WITH ENTRAPMENT

May 18,2007 -  At 07:16hrs stations 236 and 234 dispatched to a 3 vehicle collision with entrapment. Chief 236A on scene with heavy entrapment. Chief 236 on scene with command. Lifeflight units 6 was dispatched to the LZ(Our Lady of Joy Church).  Crews E236-1 and A234 extracated the patientunder 40 minutes. Patient was transported VIA Plim EMS to Lifeflight. E233-2 on scene for LZ ground contact, Sardis E78 to Station 236 for stand-by. Crews on scene for 2 hours for clean up.

Vehicle Into An Occupied Structure

May 2,2007 - Stations 236,234,233,Murrysville Station 20, and, Monroeville 194 were dispatched at 01:10hrs for a vehicle into a occupied structure with natural gas line rupture. Chief 236 on scene with command side C. Major damage to the rear of the structure(interior & exterior). A gas line was severed from the dining room fire place. T-194 secured all utilities, E-236-1 laid a line and A234 secured the water supply, E-20 crew assisted with primary and seconday search. T233 to the rear of the build for lighting and damage assesment.Crews were on scene for over two hours for ventilation, salvage and overhaul. This incident is currently under investigation by the Plum Borough Police.Municipal Building Inspector on scene.

 VEHICLE FIRE W/ENTRAPMENT

March 27,2007 - Station 236 dispatched at 21:16hrs to assist Westmoreland Station 20 with a vehicle fire with possible entrapment. E236-1 on scene with a corvet well involved, fire to the passenger and engine compartment. C236-B with command advised one occupant was located inside the vehicle after the fire was extinguished. Command was transferred to Murrysville C20 after the fire extinguished. Station 236 released shortly after. The incident under investigation by the Murrysville Police Department.

MVC W/INJURIES, WIRES DOWN

March 16,2007 - Stations 234 and 236 were dispatched at 23:11hrs  to the intersection of Saltsburg Rd at Clements for a report of a motor vehicle crash with possible entrapment. C234 arrived on scene with command reporting no entrapment but injuries, with power lines down still energized and burning. Plum EMS on scene for patient treatment and transport. Duquesne Light notified for wires down. crews on scene for 2 hours

MVC W/INJURIES

March 12,2007 - Stations 236,and 234 were dispatched at 09:05hrs for a MVC with injuries. C236B on scene with a two vehicle rear end collision with one minor injury. E236-1 on scene for fluids and debris clean up and patient assesment until the arrival of Plum EMS. Sta. 234 cancelled enroute, crews on scene for 30 minutes.

BARN FIRE

March 7,2007 - Companies 233,236,234,Monroeville 195 were alerted at 20:25hrs for a reported barn on fire. C233B on scene with a well involved barn fire. E233-1 and E236-2 laid multiple lines from each direction to contain the fire to the structure. The building and it's contents were a total loss. Thr fire is under investigation by the Allegheny County Fire Marshall's office. Crews were on scene for for over three hours perfermoring salvage and overhaul duties. It was estimated the barn was erected during the 1800's

RESIDENTIAL CHIMNEY FIRE

Jan 14 2007 - Companies 233,234,236,Penn Hills 223 Dispatched at 23:51 to a reported chimney fire. Occupant had called back to advise smoke visable from side A and D. Crews attacked the fire from the basement and the first floor living quarters, containing the fire to the basement area. Crews were on scene for over two hours for salvage and overhaul operations. ACFM on scene for investagation
